HISTORY IN THE MAKING, A SHOWPIECE KITCHEN

For this project, the homeowners wanted to create a modern state-of-the-art showpiece kitchen in a truly historic and nationally celebrated home. Known as the childhood home of American literary icon T.S. Eliot, this 1910 Federal Revival townhouse is registered as a national historic site. The homeowners were particularly mindful of this special legacy and wanted to respect the home’s heritage, while updating the interiors to function in the 21st century.

Designer Emily Castle created a gorgeous space that features state-of-the-art appliances and modern technology, as well as timeless design and historic elements from the home. Everything from the quarter-sawn oak floors to the arched opening relates to the home’s traditional character and blends seamlessly with the existing architectural elements. The original design from the living room fireplace was repeated in the kitchen on the island legs and mantle hood.

Emily combined four small isolated rooms and create one magnificent kitchen and living space, where the homeowners can relax, entertain and appreciate precious family time together

To quote T.S. Eliot —“Home is where one starts from.” For the homeowners, that sentiment rings especially true as they now have a beautiful gathering space that honors the past while celebrating their family’s future.
