A MODERN MASTER

The goal of this renovation was to update this 1980’s bathroom with a new contemporary design and add modern conveniences.

The first element to change was the choppy layout — three individual rooms were combined into a single space creating a long narrow room measuring 22’ long by only 9‘ wide. The designer suggested enclosing the new walk-in shower and water closet with 12’ of floor-to-ceiling clear and etched glass eliminating the “bowling alley” effect.

To modernize the room, the jetted tub was removed, the shower enlarged and a steam unit added.

With a new layout, the next step was to create a harmonic selection and arrangement of fixtures, materials and finishes. The clients wanted a tranquil environment to balance their busy work and travel schedules. A soothing cream paint color set the tone for the neutral color palette. Rich wood tones and subtle hints of gold enhanced the design and conveyed a slight Asian-inspiration. Romo-Omexco’s dynamic Capiz weave wallcovering, with its softly metallic finish, added a beautiful gold-toned sheen.

Moonstruck porcelain tile, with its sandstone texture and directional veining, was used for both the floor of the bathroom as well as throughout the shower, creating a sleek, unified feel. Porcelanosa’s Gravity Aluminum Cubic Gold mosaic tile was used as a shower accent adding a beautiful pop of color, shimmer and texture.

The separate ceruse oak vanities have a modern flair with their floating design illuminated by under-cabinet LED lights. The vanities are topped with sueded Taj Mahal quartzite, rectangular undermount sinks and DXV’s Rem single handle faucets in polished chrome. Robern’s Uplift sconces on either side of the vanity mirrors have a minimalist design perfectly suited to this modern room.

This handsome master bathroom has the best of modern amenities in a contemporary, peaceful space.
