A SULTRY MASTER SUITE

For this new master suite, the homeowners wanted it to encapsulate their personal style: glamorous, organic and sexy.

The flow of the space was reimagined. In the bathroom, the tub was removed and the location of the shower and commode flipped. To add a sense of drama, the single door was changed to a double and moved to the center of the wall. It aligned with the windows to create a strong visual upon entry.

By placing the basins underneath the low window and floating the mirrors, it remedied an otherwise unused portion of the room, as did a corner makeup vanity. Waterworks tortoise-colored tile and brass sconces were selected early in the design process, from which the entire color scheme was built.

For the flooring, the designer added wide-plank wood in the bedroom and carried the look to the bath, using woodgrain, porcelain tile throughout. Unlacquered, brass fixtures from Watermark and a vintage, glass-rod chandelier were selected to add a touch of glamour. The bedroom walls were clad in Maya Romanoff, wood veneer and its slight, metallic finish tied back to the bathroom finishes.

A custom-designed bed gave nod to the newly raised ceiling, and the curvilinear nature of the nightstands and benches led a feminine touch to the otherwise moody and masculine atmosphere.

The resulting suite beautifully captured the originality and sophistication of the homeowners, while giving them a space that both felt larger and functioned better.
