SOMETHING NEW, SOMETHING BLUE

Situated on a quiet street surrounded by stunning landscaping, a couple sought to fill their new construction home with traditional elements and coastal colors. The goal of this project was to give character to a new-build by layering traditional details with bold and subtle patterns to create a classic, clean and calm home.

The design team primarily focused on the details: cased openings, traditional hardware finishes, classic light fixtures, bold wallcoverings and sundry fabrics to give the illusion these new elements are lived-in, timeless classics.

The home’s flow was important to the clients; not just in the layout but in the color palette as well. And this home achieves both with flying colors. A gray and white polished checkered floor greets you as you enter. The living room painted in Magical Melon is layered with traditional furniture, bold floral patterns, and pops of pink. A first-floor powder bath packs a punch with a whimsical wallcovering from Osborne & Little, a logical extension of the living room’s color composition. A light blue Thibaut grasscloth adorns the walls of the dining room, marrying the home’s blue hues together. The kitchen acts as a palette cleanser, a bright and coastal deep breath. And a dramatic butler’s pantry in Sherwin Williams’ ‘Moscow Midnight’ in a high-gloss lacquer finish drenches the walls, trim, cabinetry and barrel ceiling.

By mixing high design elements with pockets of whimsical coloring and pattern, the design team was able to achieve this new build’s refined “lived-in” look that exudes a welcoming sophistication.
