IMPECCABLY MODERN

In the same way I.M. Pei’s glass pyramid at the Louve, or Norman Foster’s Great Court at the British Museum blend modern design with historic architecture; this thoughtfully designed living room creates the perfect tension between traditional and contemporary.

To set the stage, the designer selected a crisp backdrop of Sherwin Williams Pure White on the walls and trim to highlight the home’s 100-year-old architectural details, such as the tall ceilings, antique hardwood floors, plaster moldings and intricate fireplace surround. Flooded with natural light from several large windows, the white tones also showcase views of the front and back yards.

The clean canvas draws your attention to the sculptural, contemporary furnishings. All of the upholstery was curated from Maxalto and B & B Italia. These Italian brands pride themselves on innovation, creativity and timeless elegance – which makes them a perfect match to the hand-crafted oak cocktail table with hand forged iron detail, as well as the resin top table in amethyst, both by Holly Hunt. Anchored by a custom designed wool and silk, tone-on-tone rug, the soft blue, gray and lavender shades throughout the room are equally sophisticated and beautiful.

The designer took great care to plan a furniture arrangement with the central piece being an embossed suede custom-made bench on hidden castors. This piece allows for seating on either side when needed or it can be tucked under the Flexform Calacatta marble coffee table to open up the space. The versatility serves the clients well both for large gatherings that are warm and inviting and quieter moments such as reading.

Custom elements, such as the tailor-made wool and silk draperies, the perfectly sized rug and the fine furniture details, achieve an impeccably curated space.
