A WINTER WONDERLAND

The inspiration for this tranquil living room space started with a single fabric – Designer’s Guild ‘Winter Palace,’ shown as full-height drapery panels in the finished space. The textile, with its intriguing winter scene and soft blue color palette, spoke to the homeowner’s love of nature and her Northern Great Plains roots. With the signature fabric in hand, the designer developed a serene, relaxed living space that is as comfortable as it is beautiful.

The thoughtful furniture floor plan is centered on the gray stone fireplace. Designed to offer functional storage as well as a dynamic focal point, the custom built-ins feature shaker-styled doors and grasscloth-backed shelves.  In the original space, ceiling soffits at either side of the fireplace felt bulky and unintentional. By adding picture molding and polished nickel library sconces from Visual Comfort, the designer seamlessly incorporated the existing soffits into the fireplace feature wall.

The tailored furniture features soft gray wood finishes and durable family-friendly fabrics paired with decorative embroidered pillows. Geometric patterns in the wool rug and terracotta lamps are juxtaposed to the room’s organic and botanical textiles.

Natural materials, from the travertine stone top side tables to the subtle wood accents, create a calm and restful space inspired by nature and winter’s soft color scheme.
