AN ELEGANT MASTER SUITE
From elegant marble-clad floors to sparkling chandeliers, this newly renovated master suite pampers its owners in complete style.
Located in a 1930s home, the original master suite design and layout was an awkward fit for the homeowner’s 21st-century lifestyle. The designer reimagined the space with a fresh new feel while still respecting the charming historic details of the home.
The new design is the perfect blend of old and new. Traditional window trim was restored while an inverted ceiling was constructed to raise the height of the room and make the space feel larger. The homeowner’s original antiques were mixed with new furniture pieces in French blue painted finishes with gold striping for a refreshed transitional appeal.
From the Cowtan & Tout textiles to the Ann Gish bedding, the space was designed to be layered and feel collected over time. The soft, soothing color palette was selected to provide a tranquil mood and add to the retreat-like aesthetic.
The master bath is a showstopper with its herringbone marble tile floor, soft gray cabinetry and shimmering basketweave mosaic, made of Calacatta Gold and Botticino marble.
The fixtures are all gold, and drawer pulls and faucet handles feature crystal detailing, a nod to the home’s original brass-and-crystal hardware. The greatest challenge was ensuring that all the gold details, from a variety of manufacturers, blended flawlessly.
The end result is a beautifully appointed space that meets the demands of modern living, while celebrating the home’s traditional charm.
