POLISHED PERSPECTIVE

When homeowners became empty nesters and relocated to a polished new-build in the heart of Clayton, they sought to fill their home with plenty of personality to reflect their profound love of art. Using a single bold red work of art as the jumping-off point for the home’s design, the design team developed a distinctly modern aesthetic rooted in contrast, clean lines, and artistic expression. Contemporary pieces and streamlined architecture mingle with unexpected traditional silhouettes to create a layered and collected feel. This home embraces modern design without forgoing warmth, character, or livability.

Tucked off the entryway, even the small powder bath embraces the same contemporary cleanliness and artistic flair as the rest of the home. The bold geometric Elitis wallpaper engulfs the space in an expressive display, acting as its own work of art, while hand-selected works of art pepper in a sophisticated personality.

Throughout the first floor, design and art converse in a lively dialogue of color, pattern, and form. A dramatic dining room makes a bold first impression, using a show-stopping work of art to set the tone. Crisp, polished furniture from Hickory Chair and Chaddock ground the space while saturated color enhances the home’s architectural details, creating a sophisticated backdrop for entertaining. Opposite the dining room, the office sits pretty, bringing light and a distinct feminine flair into the home. Balancing form and function, the sleek shelving acts as a contemporary work of art.

In the breakfast room, pattern and playfulness adorn the custom Hickory Chair banquette while the clean composition keeps the space feeling intentional. The living room tempers the bold elements with its soothing palette and strong symmetry. A custom, sculptural red coffee table from Hickory Chair provides a focal point without overwhelming the space. The clean-lined limestone fireplace is a clever contrast to the traditional coffered ceiling, reinforcing the home’s central juxtaposition of contemporary and classic.

Adjacent to the living room, the bar area lends a space for elevated entertaining. Handmade polished nickel shelving, a mirrored backsplash, custom millwork by local artisans, and decorative mesh create a curated, collected, and polished aesthetic. A well-considered seating area rounds out the bar area. The classic silhouettes of the Hickory Chair chairs pair unexpectedly with an eclectic Schumacher tiger velvet. The result is a sophisticated space for entertaining.

Boasting clean-lined contemporary and timeless elements, this home showcases a striking display of modern interior design. Sharp layers, strong symmetry, and a refined color palette celebrate distinguished and expressive design.
